No, this is not as lame as you think. Part of what makes buying new clothes so appealing is the presentation. The clothes look so nice in a store. They are all hung up so neatly, the hangers are all uniform, there are spaces between the clothes so its not crowded. Now, lets take a look at the average closet. There are a bunch of different hanger colors and types all over the place. The clothes are all crowded smashed together and they colors and styles of clothes (pants, shirts, skirts etc) are all randomly hung. Not appealing.
In order to make your closet a place you want to shop you need to make it look like a store. I would start by heading to Walmart or Target and buy one style and one color of hanger. Usually, black is the best because it looks the most classy. Then hang your clothes up with these uniformed hangers.
Next, organize in a way that make sense to you. Some people organize by color, light on the left and darker on the right. Or you can organize like I do, styles of clothes together. I have skirts, pants, long sleeve, short sleeve all together so I can put together an outfit based on Raleigh’s ever changing weather patterns.
Lastly, if you have enough closet space, a little smidgen of room between the clothes so you can feel like you are sorting through clothes on the rack of a nice boutique.
Yes, this will take a little time to organize but imagine the money you can save if you just started taking trips to your closet boutique instead of the mall. Make your closet a store you want to shop in.
Last tip, if you haven’t worn something in a year. Get rid of it!
