When I was in high school, I was an excellent athlete but a decade and three kids later I was topping the scales at 215lbs. The 65lbs I gained crept up so slowly that I never noticed. Fortunately, my family stepped in and made me realize that in order to ever feel good again I needed to have some serious self-care. I took their advice and with exercise, diet and Jiujitsu I managed to find my way back to a better me.
Making the journey back is hard but it starts small. Perhaps some toe polish before you step onto the mats. A pop of color is an easy way to put a little spring into your step. It’s also something you and your training partners will see since we are barefoot for hours at a time. Likewise, a touch of eyeliner can quickly inject some style on your face and you will notice when you catch a glimpse of yourself in the rear view mirror. Applying some wonderfully scented essential oil to smell good while rolling is always a nice treat or a relaxing bath after you are home for the day. Just small touches that make you look and feel better.
